Bachelor star Peter Weber split his face wide open the day before the contestants he plans to romance arrive in Costa Rica. Known as “Pilot Pete” this new Bachelor was beyond excited when he learned last month that he’d be the one handing out roses to prospective soul mates.
Bachelor: Peter Weber Rushed Into Surgery
The newest Bachelor went on to say how grateful he was to have this chance. He also believes he’ll find the girl he will spend the rest of his life with through this process. But on Monday, the day before the women contestants were due to arrive in Costa Rica, Peter split his face open.
For those who don't know, it was a diving accident. A teenage kid went to dive into the ocean off a walkway, slipped at the very end, didn't jump far enough, fell 40 feet onto concrete and hit face first. There is video of the accident as well as the aftermath. It's the only thing I've ever seen on 4chan that has actually made me lightheaded. The accident sounds rather gruesome as it happened with glass. According to reports, Peter was playing a round of golf on Monday. The Bachelor star had a little downtime to relax ahead of the women competing for his affection arrived.
The report describes Peter attempting to step on the golf cart but instead he fell. When he toppled over, it seems his face split wide open on the “multiple” cocktail glasses he was carrying at the time.
Bad Day on Golf Course
The 27-year-old new Bachelor was rushed to a hospital in Costa Rica, two hours away from where he was golfing. The gashes to his face called for immediate surgery which left the handsome Bachelor star with 22 stitches in his face. Reports indicate Weber was hospitalized for his injury.
According to a source, Peter Weber is “pulling through” after the injury. Weber was truly humbled when it was announced in September that he would be the next rose handler. The new season premieres this coming January. This makes the 24th season of the Bachelor on ABC.
Bachelor: One Humble Guy?
Weber learned he’s the guy with the roses this next season just as the Bachelor of Paradise reunion episode ended last season. He told host Chris Harrison:
“It’s still hitting me right now, and I feel so grateful right now just to have this opportunity in front of me“. He continued, “I feel emotional right now. This is crazy. This is life-changing. I have truly, my entire life, looked forward to finding my girl, and that first person that I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with. … I have all the faith in the world that this can work for me, and I know it’s going to.”

If you spend enough time on the internet, eventually you’ll run into a GIF of a burly, bearded mountain man, smiling and nodding as the camera zooms in on his face. The GIF frequently appears on Twitter used to show approval of a tweet. It was just one of those GIFs that lived on the internet just waiting to be used in response to a tweet or sent in a text to a friend. Then, in an article published on Tuesday, Splinter News blew the whole thing wide open.
In a post evocatively titled, “Did You Know the Nodding Meme Guy Is Robert Freakin’ Redford???”, the article revealed the truth behind the meme. Turns out the GIF of the nodding man wasn’t Zach Galifianakis, as many people assumed, or just “some pleasant lumberjack rando” as the article’s author wrote, but Academy Award-winning director, activist, and The Natural star, Robert Redford.
The GIF was taken from scene in the 1972 film Jeremiah Johnson, according to Know Your Meme, the website that serves as the internet’s repository for the details behind the viral memes and GIFs that make their way around the internet. The so-called nodding man meme has been making the rounds since at least 2012. Of course, many, many people on the internet already knew that and can’t understand how other people missed the memo.
Naturally, people took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the meme. The internet’s reaction is seemingly divided between people who already knew that the GIF was Robert Redford and are shocked that people thought it was Zach Galifianakis (including former TIME TV critic James Poniewozik who tweeted his dismay) and those whose world has been shaken up by the realization.
